Burnout Regular is a hand drawn display typeface.

Making a hand made display typeface was no easy feat. I wanted to make something that had individuality in each letter but also was cohesive as a group.

I’m drawn to mixing typefaces in my personal work, so it felt fitting to combine all of that inspiration into one wild typeface.

Customizing Type

I began creating the forms
from O and H.

The systems I established through my “O“ and “H“ letterforms were then carried into every letterform. Emphasis placed on rounding edges and using circles to build forms.

Conclusion

This is one of those projects you know never has an end point because the possibilities are endless. I loved sketching these and still love redoing them when I have downtime. Even my favorite letterforms get a redesign. the biggest challenge continues to be making each letterform hold the same weight when next to each other, and developing a system regardless of individuality between letters.
